Description:

United States, early to mid 20th century CE. This is a group of two objects that are in the "tramp art" style that was popular from the 1870s to 1940s. One is a photo frame with historical photo and handwritten inscription; the other appears to be some kind of small toy carved from a wooden matchbox. Tramp art utilized discarded pieces of wood, such as cigar boxes or shipping crates and carved them with simple tools like pocketknives. Pieces like these are a powerful reminder that "art" is not just something created by a professional, but that anyone of any age or socioeconomic status can create something. Size: 6-1/4" H x 4" W (15.9 cm x 10.2 cm).
