Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A beautiful gathering of three Chimu textile fragments composed of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of fuchsia, marigold, cream, crimson, citrine, coffee, and sage. The first panel boasts a pink ground with four full and one partial S-form motifs with central white ovals. The second fragment is a polychrome panel featuring repeating registers of abstract avian figures atop a red ground. The largest fragment has a yellow ground, five abstract shamanic figures with elaborate headdresses, a lateral column of fringe, and a lower tassel. A colorful gathering from ancient Peru! Size: 4" W x 24" H (10.2 cm x 61 cm).
