Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. A quartet of hand-built pottery molds, each made to produce a different type of figural face. One mold depicts a man with sunken cheeks, a wrinkled brow, and a large nose. A second mold shows a figure with slanted almond-shaped eyes, a bulbous nose, and no mouth. A third mold depicts an abstract owl face with radiating eyes and a lobed lower body. The smallest mold shows a minimalistic face with sunken eyes surrounded by deep curvilinear grooves. Putty imprint of each mold included. Size of largest (no mouth): 3" W x 3.625" H (7.6 cm x 9.2 cm).
