Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 700 to 900 CE. A lovely gathering of four hand-built pottery vessels covered in cream-hued slip and accentuated with applied red pigment. First is a cylindrical jar with an octagonal body and a thick rim. Second is a flat-bottomed jar with red stripes around the body and rim. Third is a bowl with an incised rim and a pair of abstract pseudo-glyphs on the body. The largest is a shallow dish with a red rim and a pinched handle ring encircling the body. Size of largest (dish): 9.125" W x 2.7" H (23.2 cm x 6.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-private northern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

  • Condition: Repairs to areas of bowl and octagonal jar, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; circular jar and largest dish are intact and very good. All vessels have light encrustations and abrasions, with minor fading to original pigment. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
