North America, Mexico, ca. second half of the 19th to early 20th century CE. A gathering of five hand-carved wooden boxes with flat bases, hinged lids, and petite key holes. The black-painted exterior surfaces are adorned with stunning polychrome imagery of floral motifs, and four of the five boxes exhibit wondrous images of waterfront property. Size of largest: 8.375" L x 4.625" W x 3.5" H (21.3 cm x 11.7 cm x 8.9 cm)

  • Condition: All boxes have minor abrasions to lids and bodies, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations within, otherwise intact and very good. One medium-sized box has a child's writing on the exterior and interior of the lid in red, black, orange, and green ink. Nice remains of original painted details throughout.
