Description:

Africa, 19th century CE, Burkina Faso, Lobi Peoples. Bone (per XRF) effigies of matching man and woman. Each carved of mammal bone - impossible to know without extensive testing, but each clearly carved before the start of the 20th century. He stands feet apart, hands to his hips, shown nude with simple facial features. She also stands with hands to her hips, again nude and with features matching those of her male companion. These figures are exceedingly rare to find as singular examples, so to find a matching pair is almost unheard of. Size: 7.75" H (19.7 cm); 9.75" H (24.8 cm) on included custom stand.
