Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A large and lovely pottery figure depicting a nude man seated with bent legs upon a pair of posterior spikes. Highly burnished and adorned with red and red-orange slip, the figure presents with both arms resting upon his thighs, his feet outstretched and legs flanking a petite phallus, as he leans forward with rounded shoulders and a slightly curved back. The elongated head exhibits a pair of slit-form, coffee bean-shaped eyes, a triangular nose with broad nostrils, a narrow mouth, and ears adorned with multiple rings each, all beneath a tall forehead surmounted by a finely incised cap. A vent hole atop the head enabled heat to escape during the firing process. Size: 7.1" W x 12.7" H (18 cm x 32.3 cm)
