South America, post-Spanish conquest, Inca people, ca. 1532 to 1600 CE. A wonderful Incan kero, carved from a single piece of wood, presenting a gracefully flared and curved conical form, with geometric motifs. Skillfully hand-carved (rather than made on a lathe) and incised, this vessel was most likely used for drinking Chicha - a fermented corn beer favored by the indigenous. Size: 4.55" W x 5.2" H (11.6 cm x 13.2 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA; ex-Arte Primitivo Gallery, New York, New York, USA
