East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A sancai-glazed pottery mingqi horse, enhanced with both vibrant glaze and cold painting, standing proudly atop a rectangular plinth. This noble steed is adorned with riding tack, including floor-length saddle blankets that also serve as structural supports for the legs. Its chest is decorated with bells and ornaments, while the bridle is embellished with delicate floral motifs, all details rendered with painterly care and highlighted in tones of amber and green. A fine example of Chinese funerary art, created to accompany the deceased in the tomb, symbolizing wealth, status, and the promise of a steadfast mount in the afterlife.
