Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Two gold 96.6% (equivalent to 23K+) earrings with a flat profile and hoop form. Each earring is comprised of a singular gold wire that has been flattened to form the body and curves toward the thin terminals that wrap around themselves. The thin terminal wires were once the ancient hooks for the earlobes. These elegant earrings are wearable with modern gold plated hooks and would be a fine piece to add to any jewelry collection. These earrings would have been worn by a Roman lady as her personal property, making these invaluable assets as well as beautiful adornments. Size of larger hoop: .5" W (1.3 cm); quality of gold: 96.6% (equivalent to 23K+); total weight of both: 1.4 grams

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, acquired 1998
