Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine example of a mold-made pottery figure featuring a prancing horse and rider draped in a flowing cloak with a broad-brimmed hat. The striding steed boasts a well-kept mane and a long snout harnessed with reins held by its rider. Though the horse is in profile, the figure turns out to gaze at his viewer, displaying a naturalistic visage of heavy-lidded eyes, a broad nose, and pursed lips. The verso is bare with a circular vent. Size: 4.75" W x 5.375" H (12.1 cm x 13.7 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.
