Description:

Ancient Near East, Persia, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A finely cast Luristan bronze miniature cauldron featuring a rounded body with a slightly flared neck, supported by a pair of loops in the form of stylized birds, each gripping the arched handle in their beaks. The handle itself is wrapped with twisted wire at both terminals, adding strength as well as ornament. Incised linear decoration encircles the shoulder, accentuating the vessel's shape. Bronze cauldrons of this type were symbols of wealth and ritual significance in the ancient Near East, often associated with feasting and ceremonial display. Though this example is in miniature form, it carries the same iconography, with avian motifs evoking themes of vitality, protection, and divine guardianship. Its surface bears a rich green patina with earthen deposits, testament to its great antiquity. Size with handle up: 4.6" L x 4.1" W x 7.3" H (11.7 cm x 10.4 cm x 18.5 cm); with handle down: 4.6" L x 5.5" W x 4.5" H (11.7 cm x 14 cm x 11.4 cm)
