Description:

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, ca. 360 to 320 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery skyphos (drinking cup) with a corseted, ring-form foot and a pair of upturned handles. The deep basin and smooth surfaces are covered in a layer of jet-black glaze that has developed delicate areas of silvery iridescence.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-M.H. estate, Upper East Side, New York, USA, acquired in the early 1980s
