Description:

Pre-Columbian, northern Chile, Mapuche people, ca. 1500 CE. A handsome pipe carved from a single piece of dark volcanic stone, with a long boat-like body and a raised central cylindrical chamber. This style was popular for ritual pipe smoking in the ancient Andes. In addition, scholars believe that pipes like this example were offered as gifts or traded between different cultural groups throughout ancient Chile, as styles made in different regions have been found far from their origins. Size: 8.8" L x 1.125" W x 1" H (22.4 cm x 2.9 cm x 2.5 cm); 2.4" H (6.1 cm) on included custom stand.
