Description:

United States, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A striking sterling silver and quartz bead necklace by artists Mary and Doug Hancock, known for creating jewelry inspired by Native American Southwestern and ancient cultures. The necklace is composed of triangular, cylindrical, and disc-shaped silver beads interspersed with clear quartz crystal spacers, all arranged around a large sculptural pendant relief cast with stylized petroglyph-like figures and animals under a spiral. Set below is a silver arrowhead. The wire strands are finished with wrapped cotton thread, a technique drawn from Pueblo tradition. The necklace fastens with a button-and-loop clasp, the button inscribed with the artists' names. Doug Hancock, a former archaeologist, and Mary Hancock, a designer and artist, collaborate to create distinctive pieces that combine cultural symbolism, ancient aesthetics, and contemporary craftsmanship. Size of strand: 25.5" L (64.8 cm); arrowhead: 2.25" L x 1.125" W (5.7 cm x 2.9 cm); silver quality: 92% to 94%; weight: 208 grams
