Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to End of Pliocene Eras., ca. 23,000,000 - 2,600,000 BCE. Substantial and visually commanding fossil tooth of Otodus megalodon, the largest shark to have ever lived, measuring 6.1 inches in length and 4.7 inches across the base. The broad triangular blade is well-formed, with a sharply defined tip and robust root, the whole preserved in warm natural coloration characteristic of well-mineralized marine fossil material. At 6.1 inches, this specimen falls within the upper range of documented megalodon dentition, where size alone places it among the most sought-after examples in the private fossil market. Recovered from ancient seas dating to the Middle Miocene through the close of the Pliocene, ca. 23 to 2.6 million years ago, this tooth is a powerful remnant of an apex predator that dominated the world's oceans for nearly twenty million years. Size: 6.1" L x 4.7" W (15.5 cm x 11.8)

Provenance: private Texas, USA Collection
