Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico and northern Central America, Maya Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A massive beige and grey chert blade, symmetrical in form, with two round swirls of banded reddish color on the body so that the surface looks to the modern eye like seeing the swirling clouds of Jupiter. Massive blades like this one - and many more smaller ones - were ritually cached in the walls and foundations of Maya temples and other buildings, especially in the area that is now Belize. Size: 2.6" W x 20.25" H (6.6 cm x 51.4 cm); 22.2" H (56.4 cm) on included custom stand.
