Ivon Quezada (Mexican, Mata Ortiz, XX-XXI century). Signed on underside of base. A striking blackware olla by Ivon Quezada (Mexican, Mata Ortiz), its surface enhanced by both incised geometric decoration and sculptural figuration. The vessel displays Quezada's mastery of traditional Mata Ortiz firing techniques, which produce the rich, lustrous black finish emblematic of this celebrated pottery tradition. Two modeled lizards crawl across the vessel's shoulders in high relief, their textured bodies contrasting against the burnished surface and echoing the desert life that surrounds the Casas Grandes region. Between them, fine-line incised geometric motifs unfold in sharp, angular patterns that reference both ancient Paquime design conventions and contemporary innovation. Size: 10.3" L x 9.5" W x 6.5" H (26.2 cm x 24.1 cm x 16.5 cm)

Part of the lineage of Mata Ortiz potters that stems from the revival efforts of Juan Quezada, Ivon Quezada continues this legacy with her own balance of heritage and individuality. This olla unites symbolic animal imagery with bold modern design, embodying the artistry and vitality of Mata Ortiz pottery.
