Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-carved greenstone pendant depicting a highly stylized anthropomorphic face, perhaps a deity, with enormous eyes and expressive physiognomy. The wide-eyed visage is flanked by large ears and a shaggy coiffure while a broad nose and thick lips round out the countenance. A biconically drilled suspension hole is situated on the verso along the upper periphery and illustrates how this pendant was worn around one's neck on a necklace strand. Size: 2.9" W x 2" H (7.4 cm x 5.1 cm)
