Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya Territories, Copador, Late Classic Period, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A finely crafted Copador Maya ceramic bowl, formed by hand and richly decorated in red and black pigments over a warm orange ground. The vessel features a wide, flared rim above a sharply carinated body, giving it a crisp, angular profile. Along the lower section, subtle diagonal indentations create a gently ribbed surface reminiscent of a gourd or squash - an organic reference that connects form to agricultural symbolism within Maya culture. The interior and exterior walls are embellished with painted decoration: inside, a central cross motif is framed by four circular elements, while the surrounding surfaces display glyphic-like forms and bold geometric designs - including lattices, stepped elements, and angular banding. These patterns embody the Copador tradition's fusion of Maya visual language with southeastern Mesoamerican decorative sensibilities. Size: 8.3" Diameter x 3.3" H (21.1 cm x 8.4 cm)
