Description:

Maya regions, classic Period, ca. 500 - 800 CE. Exceptional salmon-tan color pottery two-piece lidded figural vessel, depicting a seated deity with his legs crossed, and holding an olla in front of his chest. Wearing an elaborate zoomorphic headdress having an open toothy mouth above his forehead and large round eyes, headdress is flanked on each side with an additional deity head, possibly depicting the wind god. Wearing long fancy ear ornaments. Depicted with expressive facial features, deeply set spoon type eyes, aquiline nose and open toothy mouth. A rare, top quality and beautiful example. Size: 7”H x 5”L x 3.88”W (17.8 x 12.7 x 9.9cm).
