Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A fine trio of slender ceremonial celts, each hand-carved from mottled stone of sage and forest-green hues with dark and light inclusions. The shortest celt has a rounded handle and gently expanding peripheries. The second celt has a flat butt, delineated blade faces and peripheries, and a narrow blade. The tallest celt has a rounded body, a tapered handle, and a sharpened blade edge. The celt is a tapered hand tool of a highly-stylized ritual form with ceremonial and funerary purposes. Designed for a votive function, celts like these are fabulous examples of fine Maya artistry! Lucite display stands for photography purposes only. Size of largest (sharpened blade edge): 2.125" W x 5.6" H (5.4 cm x 14.2 cm).
