Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Early to Late Classic Period, ca. 250 to 900 CE. A rare standing figure of abstract anthropomorphic form as defined by expertly incised striations. The figure presents with protruding elbows, incised legs, and a relatively flat base while the face is comprised of a slender nose, full lips, and an elaborate headdress. Remains of red pigment, perhaps cinnabar, are visible across the obverse. This figure perhaps represents a lord, governor, or shaman based on his sophisticated garb. Size: 3.5" W x 4" H (8.9 cm x 10.2 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to proper left arm with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks, with softening to some incised finer details and red pigment, and light earthen deposits within some recessed areas. Great preservation to figural form and most red pigment.
