Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautiful ear spool of a relatively circular form that is hand-carved from mottled forest-green jadeite with natural beige veining and pale citrine inclusions. The decorative accessory features a broad discoid body, an openwork central opening, and a cylindrical plug backing protruding from the verso. The outermost rim of the plug has a pair of drilled perforations that enabled the wearer to secure it to an ear via a narrow pin. Size: 2.2" L x 2" W (5.6 cm x 5.1 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from a few large pieces, with small chips and very light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to body and plug backing, with chipping to outermost periphery of plug. Nice smooth surfaces along main body.
