Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Peten Basin, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl displaying four abstract faces enclosed within thick red bars. The vessel has a flat base, an expanding lower body, tall walls, and a thick rim surrounding the basin. The black-painted faces are presented atop a cream-hued ground, with black concentric stripes coursing around the rim, and red-orange pigment coating the basin surface. Size: 6.1" W x 4.1" H (15.5 cm x 10.4 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from roughly seven pieces, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and pitting to base, walls, rim, and basin, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and great remains of original pigment throughout.
