Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Peten Basin, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A thin-walled ceramic bowl with a flat base, tall rounded walls, an unpronounced rim, and a deep basin. The ground of the vessel is painted with pale-orange slip, and the rim is outlined in black on the exterior and interior. Below it is a thick band of red and a thinner band of black on the exterior. Below that border is a group of repeated pseudo-glyphs in bold black lines against an orange ground. Another band of black and red is below that, demarcating the base of the bowl. Size: 5.75" W x 4.3" H (14.6 cm x 10.9 cm)

Provenance: private Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA collection, purchased from a US collection in 2015; originally collected in the 1940s in Tiquisate, Guatemala
