Description:

Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Peten Basin, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A thick-walled pottery bowl with a flat base, tall rounded walls, a rolled rim, and a deep basin. The ground of the vessel is painted with pale-orange slip, and the rim is outlined in black on the exterior as well as red and black on the interior. The body exterior displays a register of pseudo-glyphs on the shoulder, with solid and segmented bands beneath, and four panels of thick red vertical stripes separated by thin pairs of black striations. Size: 7.75" W x 4.8" H (19.7 cm x 12.2 cm).
