Description:

Pre-Columbian, Honduras, Maya, Ulua Valley, ca. 7th to 10th century CE.A finely painted ceramic bowl from the Ulua Valley of Honduras, this Late Classic Maya vessel features bold polychrome decoration in red, black, and orange on a pale buff ground. The flared walls and rounded base are adorned inside and out with rhythmic stepped fret motifs, jagged linework, and vertical panels, evoking stylized temples and geometric cosmograms. The interior frieze includes abstract forms that may reference ritual regalia, celestial figures, or processional scenes, rendered in dynamic, angular lines. These elements reflect the Ulua tradition's synthesis of Maya iconography with local Lenca influence, characteristic of ceremonial wares used in feasting or elite burials. A compelling example of Ulua ceramic artistry - where color, symmetry, and symbolic form converge in a vessel of ceremonial purpose. Size: 7.5" L x 7.3" W x 2.5" H (19 cm x 18.5 cm x 6.4 cm)
