Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Mayan Territories, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A small pendant, hand-carved from a mottled green stone with light inclusions, depicting a stylized face. The minimalist visage is defined by incised rectangular eyes, a broad nose with flared nostrils, finely-contoured cheeks, and a diminutive mouth, all set beneath heavy brows and a faded coiffure. Two biconically-drilled suspension holes are situated on either side of the head and allow the stone to be suspended on a necklace. Size: 1.2" W x 1.125" H (3 cm x 2.9 cm).
