Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Mayan Territories, Maya, Late Classic period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. An intriguing hand-carved Mayan stone face set within a modern 14K gold ring setting. The face resembles an abstract simian figure with puffy lips, a wide nose with flared nostrils, recessed coffee-bean-shaped eyes within rounded sockets, and a pronounced brow line. The 14K gold setting is comprised of a thin band, wide shoulders, a pair of thin arms, and a singular thick arm upon which rests the chin of the carved head. A fashionable and wearable example of ancient sculpture! Size (face): 0.75" W x 9" H (1.9 cm x 22.9 cm); total weight: 11.2 grams; gold quality: 14K; US ring size 6.
