Description:

Near East / Central Asia, Persia (Iran), likely Khorasan region, Abbasid / Seljuk (Saljuq) Empire, ca. 11th to 13th CE. This tall lamp stand is masterfully cast in leaded bronze and displays a striking baluster shaft composed of alternating globular and disc-like sections, each engraved with fine calligraphic and geometric decoration. The form rises from a robust tripod base with three outward-swept feet, the upper surface of the base adorned with six recessed roundels decorated with incised patterns. Above, a wide circular tray forms the top, engraved with interlacing rosette and a decorative border, intended to hold a separate lamp and to catch any dripping oil or wax. Size: 7" W x 19" H (17.8 cm x 48.3 cm)
