Description:

Latin America, Mexico, ca. late 20th century CE. A spectacular papier-mache bride and groom, made for the celebratory Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival. These are purportedly by a member of the famous Linares family but are not signed. The deceased newlyweds stand upright at about 4 feet (132 cm), with dapper clothing- the veil and bouquet are made from tulle and tissue paper. The skull rosary beads, sterling silver, and nickel-brass jewelry and purse was added by the previous owner- the purse and bowtie both have vintage Mexican silver hallmarks and tested as sterling silver. A symbol of everlasting love and family - "till death do us part" does not apply to this couple! Both figures are approximately the same size. Size: 18" L x 12" W x 52" H (45.7 cm x 30.5 cm x 132.1 cm)
