Agustin Cruz Tinoco (Mexican, Oaxaca, 1952-present) "Dancing Skeletons," polychrome wood, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A skeletal man and woman carved in copal wood by the famous folk artist Agustin Cruz Tinoco. They are separately carved and painted, balancing together as dancers, celebrating the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holiday. The underside is signed "Sn. Agustin De Juntas / Agustin Cruz Tinoco / Barrio el Cuajilote / Priv. de Colosio #109 / Oaxaca." Tinoco is an internationally renowned Oaxaca woodcarver with pieces in collections such as the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe and exhibited at the Hermenegildo Bustos Museum in Mexico. Size of figures together: 8" L x 5" W x 11" H (20.3 cm x 12.7 cm x 27.9 cm)
