Description:

Antonio Perez Estrado (Capula, Michoacan, Mexico, 20th-21st century). Talavera cactus cross with skulls. Signed "Ontonio Perez Estrado" with location on underside of base. An impressive ceramic sculpture by Michoacan artist Antonio Perez Estrado: a cross seemingly formed from a cactus covered in skulls that stick out from the cactus spikes as a calaca Catrina stands at the front. The Catrina poses seductively, one leg exposed from her low-cut dress as she gazes forth from a wide-brimmed hat. Size: 10" W x 18" H (25.4 cm x 45.7 cm)

Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, acquired in the mid-1990s
