Mexico, Oaxaca, late 20th century CE. Signed and dated on verso "Daniel Vasquez, Ayamualulco 980, 1986." Hand-carved and painted in bold fashion , a gruesome visage with bulging blue eyes, arched black brows with eye slits beneath for the viewer, a bloody gash across nose and left cheek, incised wrinkles on forehead and around a frowning mouth with three attached teeth. Size: 6.8" W x 9.4" H (17.3 cm x 23.9 cm)

Tejoron masks are traditional Oaxacan masks made specifically for male dancers. The piece is marked 1129 on the reverse -- possibly an accession number. This mask was exhibited at "Mexican Mask of the 20th Century: A Living Tradition" Morris Museum, Morristown, New Jersey.
