Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan area, Tarascan culture, ca. 1200 to 1524 CE. A hand-built polychrome bowl with a stunning decorative program adorning its exterior walls, featuring a large register of abstract star motifs bordered by double striations above and below, all in cream on a black ground, with a roundel on each side painted with a quadrated design housing a concentric circle in each quadrant. The interior of the bowl is a complementary rich russet red. Size: 5.125" in diameter (13 cm); 1.625" H (4.1 cm) on included custom stand.
