Description:

North America, eastern United States, ca. mid-19th century CE. A functional example of an early American iron coffee grinder with a tapered handle carved from oak. The iron grinder cup features a funnel-form body above a serrated grinding wheel that turns via a projecting arm stamped in the center with "ADAMS." The iron cup is secured to the handle via two thick screws, and a petite clamp tab on the cup exterior allows a coffee sack to be attached. A removable wing nut atop the crank arm enables the grinder to be removed to dispense the coffee grounds. Size: 17" L x 4.7" W (43.2 cm x 11.9 cm)

For an identical example, please see the Kentucky Historical Society, catalog number 2003.40.46.
