Description:

North America, United States, ca. mid-19th century CE. A beautiful percussion rifle, hand-carved from finely grained hardwood, that was meant for a child. The octagonal barrel rests above the ram rod housing of the shallow forestock and has several rifling grooves along the interior. The dense backstock has an integral, shallow chin rest and a form-fitting brass shoulder rest along the periphery. The steel lock plate houses a pair of triggers protected with a brass guard as well as a percussion hammer that falls once both triggers have been pulled. The side of the lock plate also features engraved foliate motifs as well as an encircled name reading "Joseph Golcher." Size: 41.25" L x 9" H (104.8 cm x 22.9 cm); (barrel): 25.9" L (65.8 cm); (bore): 0.425" W (1.1 cm)

  • Condition: Front pin of forestock is missing and causes slight barrel movement. Minor abrasions and encrustations to barrel and stock and softening to some engraved details. Great patina throughout. Hammer falls when both triggers are pulled; however, rifle has not been tested for firing functionality.
