Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest (USA and Canada), Alaska, Inuit, ca. mid 20th century CE. A wonderful pair of snow goggles, hand-carved from cedar, worn to protect one from snow blindness. Carved to fit the wearer's face, these goggles have narrow horizontal slits so that only some light will filter through the openings. The slits are this narrow in order to improve the wearer's visual acuity by reducing the harsh glare. A pair of drilled holes on either end of the eye covers hold the terminals of a thick leather head strap with slender strands knotted in the middle. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 7" W x 1.5" H (17.8 cm x 3.8 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand.
