Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 1200 to 500 BCE. A lovely miniature pendant, hand-carved from a red-orange stone with white inclusions (brecciated jasper), a janiform piece with two anthropomorphic faces. Each visage exhibits a bulbous, triangular nose, full lips, and drilled eyes. The faces share a conical brow and a pair of perforated ears which double as suspension loops. The tapered interior of the pendant is carved-out and leads upwards to a small perforation in the forehead. A beautiful and interesting example! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1" H (2.5 cm); 2.875" H (7.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Ferdinant Anton collection, Germany, famous Pre-Columbian art expert and author
