Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 250 to 800 CE. Ever so skillfully carved from stunning piece of jade boasting stunning verdant hues ranging from pale seafoam to clover green, a miniature head with a domed crown, a sharp jawline, and a cylindrical neck - presenting an expressive visage comprised of incised angled eyes, a triangular nose, and a slit mouth - all in a characteristically abstract, minimalist style. Costa Rica is one of the two regions along with Mesoamerica in which jade was extensively carved during the Pre-Columbian era. A spectacular form, replete with impressive artistry and technique.
