Description:

Ancient Greece, ca. 4th century BCE. A petite wheel-thrown pottery baby-feeding jar with a concave footed base, a rotund body with a rounded shoulder, a squat neck, a flared rim, an applied strap handle, and a small conical spout projecting from one side. The exterior and one area of the interior rim are coated in a lustrous black glaze, though much has worn away over time. Mothers in antiquity would fill these vessels with liquids and place the spout end into the mouth of a hungry infant. Size: 2.5" W x 2.75" H (6.4 cm x 7 cm).
