Native American, Mississippian Culture, Arkansas, ca. 900 to 1600 CE. A hand-built blackware jar of distinctive hourglass profile, the sharply carinated body swelling to a broad, angular equator before drawing inward to a low ring foot and rising through a pronounced constriction to a wide, flaring neck with a simple rounded rim, the entire surface finished to a smooth, dark gray-to-black burnish characteristic of Mississippian ceramic production in the central Arkansas lowlands, recovered from the Brakensiek Plantation in Crittenden County, Arkansas, in 1965. Size: 5.3" D x 4.7" H (13.5 cm D x 11.9 cm H)

  • Condition: Very Good. Small repair to base with adhesive visible. Chip to rim and light surface wear as shown. Find hole to base with old labels and inscriptions from previous owners. Otherwise, very nice with scattered earthen deposits.
