North America, Eastern Woodlands, southern plains (Arkansas / East Texas) Late Pre-Historic Period ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. A finely potted ceramic bowl of shallow, open form, with slightly everted rim and rounded base. The exterior decorated with carefully executed engraved motifs arranged in horizontal registers, including cross-hatched panels, rectilinear elements, and repeating geometric borders. The composition reflects characteristic Caddo design principles, emphasizing balance, rhythm, and negative space. The vessel is formed from a well-levigated clay with a smooth surface and even firing. Engraved lines show minor variation and softening consistent with age and handling.
