Description:

Native American, Midwest to Southeastern United States, Caddo / Mississippian, ca. 1200 to 1800. A fine hand-built pottery bowl displaying a round yet stable base and impressively thin walls that curve gently inwards to a flared rim. Enveloped in a hue of light grey, the handsome vessel is intricately incised with a maze-like motif and a lattice pattern on its exterior. Caddoan pottery was the finest produced by the Mississippian culture, with very thin walls, intricate motifs, and well-proportioned shapes. Size: 5.5" in diameter x 2.375" H (14 cm x 6 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired from 1950s to 1960s

  • Condition: Collection number inscribed on interior. Illegible writing on base, likely from previous collection. Chips to rim with small area of loss and some restoration. Expected surface wear with nicks, abrasions, and scratches commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, very nice with lovely earthen deposits.
