Description:

Native American, Southeastern United States, Mississippian Caddo culture, ca. 900 to 1500 CE. A commanding and beautifully preserved pottery bottle of classic Caddo form, defined by its broad globular body and short, upright neck rising with quiet authority. The surface is left largely unadorned, its subtle fire clouds and variegated tones of buff, gray, and deep charcoal bearing witness to the kiln atmosphere and the hand of the maker. This restrained aesthetic reflects a tradition in which form and finish carried as much meaning as applied decoration, emphasizing balance, volume, and tactile presence. Such vessels were integral to daily and ceremonial life, used for the storage and pouring of water or other liquids, and often placed within burial contexts as offerings. The careful burnishing and controlled firing visible here speak to the technical skill of Caddo potters, whose ceramic traditions are among the most refined in the Mississippian world. Size: 11.5" Diameter x 11.8" H (29.2 cm x 30 cm)

The vessel's impressive scale and intact condition enhance its presence, offering a direct and unembellished expression of Caddo artistry and cultural continuity.
