A polychrome tripod vessel with an incised grater pattern in tondo, four slithering serpents applied to the exterior walls and peeking over the rim, and a mesmerizing red-on-beige decorative program - with bands of curvilinear, linear, and concentric circle motifs flanking the incised grater pattern in tondo, frets along the rim, linear bands around the upper exterior walls, and wavy lines adorning the serpents to emphasize their sinuous bodies. A lovely piece of pottery from this ancient Mexican culture! Size: 9.7" L x 8.625" W x 5.125" H (24.6 cm x 21.9 cm x 13 cm)

  • Condition: Stabilization to two lengthy fissures stemming from rim, with minute chips and light adhesive residue along fissures. Abrasions and small nicks to legs, snakes, exterior, and rim, with fading and light chipping to areas of pigmentation, softening to some finer details on snakes, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and remains of pigment throughout.
