Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche, Phase I, ca. 100 BCE to 300 CE. A compelling Moche pottery stirrup vessel presents a seated male figure, cross-legged with hands on knees, radiating an intense gaze from crescent-shaped eyes with bulging pupils. His imposing features include a prominent nose, straight mouth, and flared, earspool-adorned ears. Incised lines of ceremonial scarification mark his face, while a bifurcated helmet crowns his head, and long hair flows down his arched back. A draped cloth covers his lap, with one foot peeking out, and armbands detail his wrists. Size: 6.3" L x 5.7" W x 6.5" H (16 cm x 14.5 cm x 16.5 cm)
