Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche IV, ca. 200 to 500 CE. Armed and dangerous, the highly decorated warrior adorning this stirrup vessel means business! Kneeling upon one leg and brandishing an intimidating club, he wears an impressive lobed helmet (a form perhaps referencing the Andes), enormous round ear ornaments painted with black concentric circles, and a tunic with black curvilinear motifs adorning the lower band. Our fierce warrior or lord presents a serious and alert countenance, his visage replete with wide open almond-shaped eyes, a straight noble-looking nose, and a closed mouth that expresses determination. The entire vessel displays a gorgeous polychrome finish in red, black, and white. Size: 7.75" L x 5" W x 8.75" H (19.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 22.2 cm)
