Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche III to IV, ca. 400 to 600 CE. "Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it. Let's do it, let's fall in love!" In the context of this piece, perhaps that third line of this famous song could be, "Even revered llamas do it!" A wonderful pottery stirrup vessel depicting a pair of domestic llamas in the act of procreation. Both are beautifully detailed with spotted coats painted in black on orange slip, low relief ovoid eyes, and perky ears. What's more, the pair is presented in a frisky position! Size: 8.125" L x 8.75" H (20.6 cm x 22.2 cm)
